My Favorite Songs of 2010

Pratt.tv/2010cdSo a year ago I thought to myself, "I would love to give all my friends a gift for Christmas or Hanukkah (2 of you)." But...that's just too expensive. "How could I make this happen?" I tried to think of something I could make that they would: A. Like, and B. Not take forever to make. So with the fact that I am such a huge fan of music, my love for sharing these musical interests and some inspiration from my friend Patrick Garvin, this "favorite songs of the year compilation" came about.

This is the second year that I've made a compilation disc with the first one being "My Favorite Songs of 2009." That disc was so much fun to make, I knew I'd want to continue doing it. I put as many songs on the disc that would fit when burned as an "Audio CD" as apposed to a "MP3 CD" which has been 19 songs the past 2 years. A year ago, I made close to 50 copies of my "Favorite Songs of 2009" CD, handing and mailing them out to friends.

I've been looking forward to making this CD for the past 6 months, slowly adding to the list of what songs I would put on the CD. Each song on the disc is truly one of my favorites that came out in 2010. It's a song that I have given 4 or 5 stars in my iTunes library...a song that I have listened to over and over throughout the year and a song that I just can't help but to tell others about. With that said, I put the tracks in order on the disc that I think they sound the best, listening to the front and back of each song as I put them in the order. Oh, and before I tell you what songs made it on my "Favorite Songs of 2010" CD, here are the rules:

  • The song must come from a studio album
  • The song has to be published in 2010
  • No more than 2 songs on CD per artist/band.

"Jason's Favorite Songs of Two Thousand Ten"

  1. Pyro by Kings of Leon
  2. Get Higher by Paper Tongues
  3. Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons
  4. Take Me by The John Butler Trio
  5. REVOFEV by Kid Cudi
  6. On My Way Back Home by Band of Horses
  7. Radioactive [Remix feat. the West Angeles Mass Choir] by Kings of Leon
  8. Time to Smile by Xavier Rudd
  9. Trinity by Paper Tongues
  10. Not Afraid by Eminem
  11. Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons
  12. Gotta Slow Down by Fusebox Funk
  13. Factory by Band of Horses
  14. Better Days by Eddie Vedder
  15. Like a G6 by Far East Movement
  16. Revolution by The John Butler Trio
  17. Drop the World by Lil Wayne
  18. Underground Power by Fusebox Funk
  19. Hand Covers Bruise by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross

Oh, and I decided to make this compilation CD a "Happy New Years" gift, because it's awesome to still be getting a gift in the mail after January 1st, right?! This year I mailed or handed out almost 80 discs to friends. I have such a blast picking the songs on the disc each year and I look forward to doing it each year or maybe inspiring you to create your own favorite songs of 2011.

So if you received this CD and have given it a few spins, let me know what you think in the comments below!! If you haven't heard the CD because you don't have one, let me know cause I would love to send you a disc!

Lastly, I'm sure there are plenty of songs that you loved in 2010. Please let me know in the comments...I'd love to talk music with you!

Turn it up in 2011! - Jason

PS: Throughout the year, I'll be posting lots of stuff should be turned up loud at Pratt.tv/music.

Results of the "Apple TV and Water Social Photo Contest"

twitpic.com/3mrobq

So yesterday Pratt.tv was one of the sponsors on iwearyourshirt.com, which is when I kicked off this rad contest! I asked you all to go to facebook.com/PrattTV and post what your favorite person/place/thing is to take pictures of and you did.

At 5pm EST, when the contest ended, I went through the posts and selected the TOP 3 with the most "Likes", which were Kasie Glisson with 66 Likes, Ty Williams with 49 Likes and Dorothy Harris with 41 Likes. I then entered those 3 names into a "randomizer machine thingee"...in this case I used random.org and it spit out the winner...
Kasie Glisson!!

There were a total of 38 posts on the Pratt.tv facebook page, which collectively gathered 339 Likes. Wowzers is what I've got to say about that!

People's answers ranged from babies and farms to historic landmarks and Kenny Chesney.

Below, you will find all 38 of those posts answering the question "What is your favorite person/place/thing/whatever to take pictures of?". Check 'em out...very fun, sweet and inspiring. 19. Joao Bicalho:After a lot of thought, I chose a picture that brings good memories. A dear neighbor of mine asked me to take care of her pet while she was out f town. She had set the mouse trap in the barn and asked me to check every other day to see if there was anything there. She also asked me, in case there was a rat there, I sho...uld dump the dead rat on the bird house and leave it there. Well, one day the light was blinking and there was this long, thin tail outside the trap, so I knew I had to dump the dead rat on the birdhouse as she requested. OK, I did not touch the dead animal (just for the record), but then I thought why she would ask me to place the animal there. Before I knew it, there was this incredible, huge, beautiful hawk on the roof of the barn ready to take its meal. Before I put the animal down, on the roof of this tiny birdhouse, all I could hear was wing flaps and literally felt the air moving underneath its wings as the hawk got the rat and flew away! This story is important to me because it taught me how much we impact the environment and how delicate its balance is. Needless to say, how lucky I am to live in Florida and have such an exquisite chance to see a majestic bird so close and in such a personal experience. A few days later I returned to the barn and I was lucky to have the camera with me, here is how she thanked me ... she posed for the photo and let me know that it was alright to share our little adventure with y'all! God bless the USA, Joao!”

24. Marta Picken: ‎"Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” But changed my world! He brings my husband and I so much joy. Everything he does is a Kodak moment in my eyes :)”

25. Jon M. Fletcher: “I love taking photographs of my family. As our kids grow up before our eyes, the images I have help me remember all the blessings of parenthood. One of our favorite things to do together as a family is to take a spin through the archive and look at "old pictures". This particular photo is from a nighttime shuttle l...aunch back in 2009. I have a hard enough time getting them still enough for a family portrait, so to get both the shuttle and everybody in the frame at once was a major accomplishment.
Oh yes, and my second favorite subject to photograph is Jason. ;)”

Things changed when I picked up a camera. I had this device that was an extension of myself and was a tool for me to bring out the stories of others I met along the way. Being... out in the community recording history and telling stories feeds my soul in a way that nothing else besides my faith ever has. There are so many stories that have yet to be told and I am thirsty (shameless plug) to be a part of telling them.”

I love photos, videos, music and water and we all know the two best ways of enjoying them are with an Apple TV and a Pratt.tv SIGG water bottle, right?! So I thought it'd be totally rad to give someone a brand new Apple TV and a white alumnimn BPA-FREE 1-liter Pratt.tv SIGG water bottle. Before I mention how...check out what's going on today to mark the 2nd day of 2011...

Angela Seales of iwearyourshirt.com is promoting 5 happy companies today and Pratt.tv is one of them and she's been going nuts doing it...

Straight from today's iwearyourshirt.com blog post "We've Got 26 Sponsors Today":

"Pratt.tv was created at first to be a place for Jason Pratt to display his portfolio of work (photos, videos, multimedia slideshows) and for a place to bring all of his social media sites and “all things Jason Pratt” in one radical spot. Jason does photography and video production for local Jacksonville, FL companies and corporations, specializing in working with awesome people. 2. Then write on the wall, or post a photo with a caption, telling everyone what your favorite thing/person/place/whatever is to take pictures of. (Only one post per person ...we don't want to know everything about you.)
  3. Contest will end at 5 p.m. EST on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. All wall posts and "Likes" before that time will be eligible. Yay.
  4. Once the contest ends, I will go through and locate the three wall posts with the most "Likes". One of those three wall posts will be randomly selected and the Facebook user that posted that comment will win an Apple TV and Pratt.tv SIGG water bottle from Pratt.tv. Rad!
  5. The winner will be announced by 9pm EST on Monday, January 3, 2011. The items will be mailed out at the end of this week. Stay thirsty, My [socialMULTImedia] friends.
  6. You must be both a "fan" of Pratt.tv on Facebook AND a rad person to be eligible to win. It's SO simple...for most people :)

New: Rock out at Pratt.tv/music ♬ ♪

I am a huge fan of music and even a bigger fan of talking about it, so I thought it'd be really cool to create a section on my website for me to do just that. Here I will post the latest artists, albums and songs that I've been listening to. I'll share my favorite music videos on YouTube or videos that I've shot from the most recent concert I went to.

One of my favorite websites is Last.fm. It's social media for music lovers. Feel free to check out my page to find out what song I last listened to or which artists I've listened to the most in the past week or month. If you have a last.fm page, please let me know in the comments...I'm always looking for a new music buddy.

I've got lots more to say...stay tuned. - Jason

Here's a recent video from my favorite band of all time:
