My Favorite Songs of 2010
Pratt.tv/2010cdSo a year ago I thought to myself, "I would love to give all my friends a gift for Christmas or Hanukkah (2 of you)." But...that's just too expensive. "How could I make this happen?" I tried to think of something I could make that they would: A. Like, and B. Not take forever to make. So with the fact that I am such a huge fan of music, my love for sharing these musical interests and some inspiration from my friend Patrick Garvin, this "favorite songs of the year compilation" came about.
This is the second year that I've made a compilation disc with the first one being "My Favorite Songs of 2009." That disc was so much fun to make, I knew I'd want to continue doing it. I put as many songs on the disc that would fit when burned as an "Audio CD" as apposed to a "MP3 CD" which has been 19 songs the past 2 years. A year ago, I made close to 50 copies of my "Favorite Songs of 2009" CD, handing and mailing them out to friends.
I've been looking forward to making this CD for the past 6 months, slowly adding to the list of what songs I would put on the CD. Each song on the disc is truly one of my favorites that came out in 2010. It's a song that I have given 4 or 5 stars in my iTunes library...a song that I have listened to over and over throughout the year and a song that I just can't help but to tell others about. With that said, I put the tracks in order on the disc that I think they sound the best, listening to the front and back of each song as I put them in the order. Oh, and before I tell you what songs made it on my "Favorite Songs of 2010" CD, here are the rules:
- The song must come from a studio album
- The song has to be published in 2010
- No more than 2 songs on CD per artist/band.
"Jason's Favorite Songs of Two Thousand Ten"
- Pyro by Kings of Leon
- Get Higher by Paper Tongues
- Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons
- Take Me by The John Butler Trio
- REVOFEV by Kid Cudi
- On My Way Back Home by Band of Horses
- Radioactive [Remix feat. the West Angeles Mass Choir] by Kings of Leon
- Time to Smile by Xavier Rudd
- Trinity by Paper Tongues
- Not Afraid by Eminem
- Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons
- Gotta Slow Down by Fusebox Funk
- Factory by Band of Horses
- Better Days by Eddie Vedder

- Revolution by The John Butler Trio
- Drop the World by Lil Wayne
- Underground Power by Fusebox Funk

Oh, and I decided to make this compilation CD a "Happy New Years" gift, because it's awesome to still be getting a gift in the mail after January 1st, right?! This year I mailed or handed out almost 80 discs to friends. I have such a blast picking the songs on the disc each year and I look forward to doing it each year or maybe inspiring you to create your own favorite songs of 2011.
So if you received this CD and have given it a few spins, let me know what you think in the comments below!! If you haven't heard the CD because you don't have one, let me know cause I would love to send you a disc!
Lastly, I'm sure there are plenty of songs that you loved in 2010. Please let me know in the comments...I'd love to talk music with you!
Turn it up in 2011! - Jason
PS: Throughout the year, I'll be posting lots of stuff should be turned up loud at Pratt.tv/music.

<cough>.... <hurrrumph>... I believe it's Monday.
You got me! I'll be posting something later. I guess I was just too anxious to send the disc out.
Loved it! I was hoping for some Inception, but still a great mix! :D
This was fantastic! I probably would have switched out Sigh No More with White Blank Page but all in all a great mix! Thanks for my New Years gift!!
I especially like the Mumford and Sons song "Little Lion Man". That has go to be the perfect blend of traditional Appalachian styles and modern rock sensibilities. I'm also not too proud to admit that I had never heard the Kings of Leon before and "Pyro" was a very nice way to discover them.
Not to be outdone, I figured here would be a decent place to shamelessly plug my article "Top 25 Albums: A Musical Decade in Review", which you can read here: http://j.mp/gEvuzf
Thanks again Pratatat!!! Happy 2011
Thanks for the disc, Jason! I listened to it and the only major disagreement I have with you is the Eminem song. While I like Not Afraid, I think Love The Way You Lie is a better track. (And that's a lot coming from me considering I don't really care for Rihanna, haha.) The song was awesome, the video was awesome-er. All in all good tune. Thanks for the new music! I hadn't heard a lot of the songs. :)
Thanks for the CD! I've listened to all 19 songs now. The ones I liked were the songs by Paper Tongues, Eminem, Fusebox Funk, Kid Kudi and Eddie Vedder. I like the band Kings of Leon, however their latest album wasn't as good as their last. Radioactive is okay, the other song, Pyro, I didn't care for. The other tracks on the CD didn't sound as awesome, but they weren't bad. The last one, the instrumental arrangement by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, I thought was sort of interesting.
Jason, thanks SO MUCH for the CD, I feel really honored to be on the list ;) and the music was great! Had heard a lot about Mumford & Sons but never got around to listening - you made it easy. Such a great idea and thanks again!!
